US, South Korea stop large-scale military exercises

Washington, The United States and South Korea agreed to end their annual large-scale joint military exercises as Washington pursues efforts to improve ties with North Korea, the US Department of Defense said at its website on Sunday.

An American official said last Friday that the US and South Korea will suspend their joint military exercises, as part of US President Donald Trump’s efforts to maintain the truce he has struck with Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea.

The decision to scale back the military exercises follows nuclear talks this week between Trump and Kim that ended without an agreement on how, or whether, to shut down North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
