Tension rise as Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

A state of tension prevailed at the Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif compound in occupied Jerusalem as extremist settlers provocatively stormed the compound, a Palestinian official source said Thursday.

General Director of the Islamic Awqaf and al-Aqsa Affairs, Sheikh Azzam Al-Khatib, told Petra’s reporter in Ramallah that dozens of settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque yards entering through the Bab Al Magharbeh gate under heavy protection by Israeli forces.

Jerusalem Islamic bodies on Wednesday issued a joint statement stating that the Israeli occupation forces have been targeting the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Aharif during the entire year, especially in the month of Ramadan, in an attempt to break the long standing rule that prohibits Israeli settlers from breaking into the mosque in the last ten days of Ramadan.
