Slovakia: Caputova wins 1st round of presidential election

Amman, The anti-corruption campaigner Zuzana Caputova on Sunday won the first round of Slovakia’s presidential election with 40.5% of the votes, far ahead of the Smer candidate, Maros Sefcovic, who had 18.7%, according to official sources.

The pair will now contest a second-round run-off on 30 March.

Once she is elected, Caputova, the liberal lawyer who works in civil rights and represents the Progressive Party of Slovakia, will become the first female president of Slovakia.
