Second round of presidential election in Ukraine kicks off

Amman, The second round of regular Ukrainian presidential elections kicked off on Sunday with competition between actor Volodymyr Zelensky, who was nominated by the Servant of the People Party, and incumbent President, Petro Poroshenko.

The results of the first round, held on March 31, showed that Zelensky secured the support of 30.24% of the voters while Poroshenko gained 15.95%, according to Russian TASS agency.

Ukraine’s Central Election Commission stated that at least 26 million Ukrainians are expected to cast their ballots in the runoff election.

Actor Zelensky has led opinion polls against President Poroshenko, whose unsuccessful efforts to tackle corruption and low living standards have reduced his popularity.
