Safadi, EU ambassadors discuss Syrian crisis

Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday met with ambassadors of the EU countries in the Kingdom and discussed the Syrian crisis development.

The meeting outlined developments in the South of Syria where the Foreign Minister outlined efforts of Jordan to ensure the security and safety of civilians and provide them with assistance on their land.

He stressed that Jordan will continue to do everything possible to help the Syrian brothers and contribute to meeting their needs.

He also underlined the need to intensify international efforts to realize a political solution accepted by the Syrians to preserve the unity, security and stability of Syria and create conditions that allow refugees to return to their homeland and live in security and stability.

Safadi said that Jordan would not hesitate to offer all possible humanitarian support to the Syrian brethren and would take, at the same time, all necessary measures to protect its security and national interests. Jordan, which received 1.3 million Syrian refugees, will continue to provide all support for the refugees in the Kingdom, but will not receive more, the minister said.

He commended the EU’s support for the Kingdom to help it shoulder the burden of refugees, stressing the importance of partnership with United Nations organizations to meet the needs of refugees. He also underlined the need for the international community to support the Syrians inside their country.

The Foreign Minister also affirmed the need to implement all the terms of reconciliation agreements, guaranteed by Russia in the south of Syria to ensure the stability and security of the region.
