Mafraq, Deputy Chairman of the Qatar Fund for Development, Mesfer Hamad Al-Hajri and the accompanying delegation, visited the Al-Zaatari camp, the northern governorate of Mafraq, on Saturday and checked on services provided to Syrian refugees and Qatari projects in the camp for study and evaluation.
Al-Hajri told Petra that he appreciates Jordan’s efforts in providing services and care at various levels and sectors to Syrian refugees.
He also commended the government’s rapid response in helping donor countries in providing service and care for refugees.
He said the visit to the camp aims to check on Qatari projects, especially in the field of health care, to evaluate the situation and study it with the aim of improvement and development, in addition to continuing the provision of the necessary support in the future in cooperation with the Jordanian organizations and entities.
He added that there is more cooperation between Qatar and Jordan in this area, pointing out that the Al-Zaatari camp is a model in terms of the great level of comprehensive organization of various needs of refugees.
Deputy director of the Al-Zaatari camp, Issam Al-Ajrami, gave a brief on mechanisms of providing services, as well as the camp’s management role in enhancing security while providing social, economic and educational safety and receiving various transactions related to reunification and visits.
He reviewed challenges hindering the continuity in providing services in light of the low level of support provided to Jordan by donor countries.
The Qatari delegation was also briefed on by representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan, Mafraq and the Al-Zaatari camp on challenges and developments in the camp, and the service delivery mechanism for refugees in the area of food, education, health care and water.
Al-Hajiri and the delegation toured the camp’s facilities and checked on services provided by the International Medical Corps and Qatar Red Crescent clinics.
They also toured the Qatar Charity’s Medical Center / Arabian Medical Relief (AMR) where its director, Dr. Awni Al-Bashir, gave a briefing on services and programs provided to Syrian refugees in the camp.
