Polls open in Ukraine’s presidential election

Amman, Ukrainians are casting ballots in Sunday’s presidential election for the seventh time since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Voting lists include 39 candidates, according to the latest polls, comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy leading the field, followed by President Petro Poroshenko and the head of the Batkivshchina political party, Yulia Tymoshenko.

More than 2,300 observers, including 1,500 foreigners, are taking part in the March’s 31 presidential election, the Russia Today said.

According to the Ukrainian Central election commission’s database, the country has about 30 million of registered voters.
