Commander of the Northern Military Zone Brig.Gen Khalid Masa’id said Thursday the fire that swept through a sulfur plant yesterday on the Jordan-Syria border was arson to ignite chaos among the displaced, and find a pretext to cross into the Jordanian soil.
He told Petra that Jordan continues to uphold its decision not to take in more refugees while carrying out its humanitarian duty towards the displaced by providing them with relief and medical attention.
He pointed out that an estimated 40,000 Syrians were massed near the area, including terrorist elements.
Masa’id assured citizens that the northern border is safe and that the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army is capable of safeguarding the frontier and apply Rules of Engagement to meet this goal.
