Following is the text of press release issued by Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)
LUMS student, Rehan Elahi was a member of Team Pakistan, the winning team, at this year’s Global Business Institute 2015. Besides Rehan, an undergraduate student of the BSc (Hons) in Management Science at the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), other team members included Amara Isani, Abdullah Mirza and Aamna Zahid, from different universities of Pakistan. This year, the top two business proposals to the competition came from Team Pakistan and Team Algeria.
The Global Business Institute is a partnership between the Coca-Cola Company and the US Department of State to sponsor 100 university students from 8 different countries across the Middle East, North Africa and Near Asia to attend a month-long business programme at Indiana University’s prestigious Kelley School of Business, one of the top ranked business programmes in the United States. The multi-faceted, immersion scholarship programme is designed to give students the opportunity to learn about business education through an accelerated curriculum.
At the conclusion of the Global Business Institute programme in Indiana, the budding entrepreneurs got a chance to pitch potential business models to a panel of Coca-Cola executives and State Department officials. Team Pakistan’s four members created a business model that reduces waste by reselling used clothing. Their motivation was to develop a business plan that would benefit the environment. The team plans to find funding to change their business plan into a reality.
