Jordan, Britain discuss means to ensure success of international conference on Jordan

Jordan and the United Kingdom discussed ways to ensure the success of the international conference on Jordan, which will be held in London before the end of the year with the aim of mobilizing more support for Jordan from investors and international donors.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Planning today, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the caretaker government Imad Fakhoury met with British Secretary of State for International Development and Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs Alistair Burt.

The two ministers discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations and the importance of supporting Jordan’s economic and development march in light of the challenges facing Jordan due to the instability in the region.

During the meeting, Fakhoury also reviewed with the Burt, the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Jordanian government and the UK government at the end of November 2017 during the visit of British Prime Minister Theresa May to the Kingdom.

Under the MoU, Jordan will receive 75 million pounds in the form of grants to finance priority development projects and support the Kingdom’s long-term economic reform and economic recovery.

The minister of planning thanked the United Kingdom for it continued support to Jordan’s development process.

During the meeting, which was attended by British Ambassador to Amman Edward Edward Oakden, the British minister expressed understanding of the urgent need to address the economic challenges facing the Kingdom at present, and expressed his continued support for Jordan.
