Japanese ambassador announces $2 million donation to UNRWA

Baqa’a, Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Hidenao Yanagi on Sunday visited facilities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Baqa’a camp in the presence of Acting Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs Nidal Haddad and Director of UNRWA Operations in Jordan Roger Davis.

During the visit, which included the clinic of the main Baqa’a camp and a primary school, the envoy announced the allocation of $2 million by the Japanese government to UNRWA in Jordan.

“Jordan has played a major role in preserving the political and humanitarian rights of the Palestinian refugees,” Haddad said, voicing Jordan’s keenness to offer a decent life for the Palestinian refugees and provide them with necessary services.

He praised Japan’s political stance on regional issues and its support for regional security and stability, noting the Japanese efforts to realize peace and find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue within the two-state solution.

The director of UNRWA operations in Jordan commended cooperation between the agency and the Japanese government, noting that the Japanese support would help the agency extend services to the refugees.
