Israel seals off Jerusalem streets ahead of march by Jewish extremists

Ramallah, Israeli occupation forces on Sunday deployed heavily in the Old City of Jerusalem and surrounding roads ahead of so-called “annual Jerusalem flag march”, in which tens of thousands of religious Jews, settlers and extremists take part on the anniversary of the occupation of East Jerusalem.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem said in a statement that successive groups of settlers and ultraorthodox Jews organised tours from the village of Tur, passing through the Sawanah neighbourhood and then to the Mughrabi Gate and the Al-Buraq Wall, and also staged marches in the town of Silwan and at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The Israeli occupation forces and police put up barricades and iron fences in the streets and routes leading to the Old City and closed them to Arab citizens of Jerusalem.
