Inflation up 4pct in

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) – a measure of inflation – rose by 4.3 percent in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017.

The main commodities groups that contributed to this increase, according to the Department of Statistics, were the Transport Group (1.33 percent), Cereals and Products (0.93 percent), Tobacco and Cigarettes (0.67 percent), Rentals (0.43 percent) and Fuel and Lighting (0.31 percent).

While the most main commodity groups the prices of which declined were Vegetables, Dry and Canned Cereals (0.36 percent), Garments (0.05 percent), Dairy Products and Eggs (0.01 percent) and Shoes (0.01 percent).
