House speaker receives Saudi parliamentary delegation

Amman, Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament and Head of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) Atef Tarawneh on Sunday received a delegation from Saudi Arabia.

The delegation included Ambassador to Jordan Prince Khalid bin Faisal bin Turki Al Saud and Head of the Jordanian-Saudi Brotherhood Parliamentary Committee, Saleh Al-Khaliwi, who is also the head of a delegation from the Saudi Shura Council, a formal advisory body of Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, Tarawneh underlined the deep-rooted bilateral ties under the two countries’ leadership.

He stressed the importance of coordinating and enhancing joint parliamentary work between the Jordanian Lower House and the Saudi Shura Council to serve the Arab nation’s core issues, and to unite Arab countries in the face of challenges.

He said his message at the AIPU stems from the importance of uniting and coordinating positions so that Arab efforts are not scattered especially when voting on stances and decisions at international parliamentary unions.

The Saudi envoy underscored the distinguished and historic ties that are boosted regularly to serve the Jordanian and Saudi peoples.

He said the two countries positions are always in favor of the Arab and Islamic nations’ issues, pointing to the ongoing coordination and consultation between their leaders.

Head of the Jordanian-Saudi brotherhood committee Saleh Al-Khaliwi pointed out the committee’s keenness to boost joint parliamentary work, noting it will discuss with members of the Jordanian committee means of enhancing cooperation and prospects of joint action in a number of parliamentary affairs.
