Amman, Deputy Prime Minister Rajai Al-Muasher stressed the importance of dialogue to reach understandings on drafting a fair and consistent tax law that includes clear provisions to combat tax evasion.
In a meeting with representatives of labor union in the presence of the ministerial committee tasked with conducting dialogue on the draft tax law, Muasher said that the government has opened dialogue with all civil society organizations to discuss the draft income tax law to reach a fair law that addresses tax evasion and improves tax management.
The deputy prime minister also called for reconsidering tax structuring and building a solid base to fight tax evasion and deal with this issue in a way that guarantees justice and enhance social and economic solidarity and protect the middle class.
During the meeting, which was attended by Finance Minister Izzidine Kanakrieh and labour Ministry Secretary General Hani Khleifat, Muasher said that proposals made by various sectors take into account the interest of the homeland and the citizen, noting that the tax is a national interest to increase economic growth and reduce deficit and indebtedness.
President of General Federation of Jordan Trade Unions Mazen Maayteh praised the stance of His Majesty King Abdullah II who directed the government to address economic conditions.
He also hailed the government’s measure to conduct a dialogue to amend the income tax law and address tax evasion.
