China opens Mars simulation base

Beijing, China has opened its first Mars simulation base to the public in northwest China’s Qinghai Province, according to Chinese official news agency.

It added that the 32-hectare base is mostly uninhabited desert with complicated life conditions, making tourists feel they are on Mars and not on Earth with its natural features, landscape and climate all similar to those on the red planet.

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation said that the purpose of this base is to conduct scientific studies on the Red Planet, and attract young people to work in space research.
