5.7magnitude quake hits northwest of China

Beijing, A 5.7magnitude earthquake early Monday struck Xiahe county, in Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture northwest of China’s Gansu province, with no casualties reported.

According to authorities, strong tremors were felt in the county and many people rushed out to the streets after the earthquake, while local governments of all the townships in the county are evaluating its impact.

The China Earthquake Networks Center said the epicenter was monitored at a depth of 10 km, and it was felt obviously in the neighboring cities of Tianshui and Lanzhou.
